Location

Approach to Nuwara Eliya is like coming home to most European travelers over the top pass via Ramboda, where the drape of hills part to open the valley of Nuwara Eliya below covered in mist, with twinkling lights if you come in the night, which speaks of log fires and warm baths and things that a tired traveler looks forward to. The Ashford is situated about five kilometers from the centre of the town, passing the famous lake landmark “Lake Gregories” of Nuwara Eliya, at the foot of Mt. Hakkgala and the Hakkgala forest reserve.

Hotel Ashford is located approximately 185 km from Colombo, with more than one scenic approach. One via Kandy-Ramboda pass, (05 and half hours) and the other one via Hatton-Ginigathena pass (04 hours). On Ramboda route you will be presented with spectacular scenery and a fabulously split ramboda waterfall, while on the other you will see two waterfalls, The St. Clare’s and The Devon falls, and many tea estates marching down on either side of the road clutching upon every shaky ledge. There are no direct train services to Nuwara Eliya and one must stop at Nanu-oya station and travel the next 6km by vehicle (total travel time over 8 hours).
